Re-imaging Westbury Square
The existing Westbury Square is a dilapidated site at the heart of Houston’s Westbury neighborhood. Open House proposes placing the home’s private nature into the public realm. This shifts the home’s responsibility from the individual or family unit so it can be the community’s shared experience. The project reconciles both the site and surrounding context’s old and new to reimagine the suburban center as a place that serve the community. It takes a big-box store and turns it into a berm filled plaza that can house community events. Open House allows the community to come together and celebrate life – from mundane necessities to special occasions. It is an area that can serve, and be used by, anyone in the community; framed around new ideals.
